Saudi TGA Cracks Down on Illegal Passenger Transport Services

The Transport General Authority (TGA) said on Saturday that it detained 1,349 people across the Kingdom for breaking transport rules by offering passenger services without a “kdadah” permit between November 15 and 21.

The TGA explained that 723 people were involved in “al-munadah”, which means trying to attract passengers illegally. Another 626 people were caught actually transporting passengers illegally using their private cars. Read: TGA enforces tougher rules, fines and deportations

All of these violators faced official actions, including vehicle impoundment and financial fines.

The authority added that repeating “munadah” violations can lead to a fine of up to SR 11,000 and impoundment of the vehicle for up to 25 days.

Operating passenger transport services without a license can lead to fines of up to SR 20,000 and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days for repeat offenses.

The TGA said that these ongoing inspections are meant to make sure all transport operators follow licensing rules, encourage people to use approved transportation services, and improve the overall quality of passenger transport across the Kingdom.
