Saudi Arabia introduces Gasoline 98: Know What It Is and Who should use it?
As Saudi Arabia is ready to sell Gasoline 98 on the local fuel market, Saudi Fuel has explained what this high-octane fuel is, how it is different from other types of gasoline, and which cars should use it.
What Is Gasoline 98?
Gasoline 98 is a type of vehicle fuel with a high octane rating of 98. It contains the same basic chemical components as other gasoline types, but in different proportions. These differences allow the fuel to better resist combustion under high pressure.
This fuel is made just for engines that work with a lot of internal pressure. This may be due to the engine's design or its use of modern systems like turbochargers or other pressure-boosting technologies. Recommend: Saudi Arabia announces 70% localization of Procurement jobs
What Does “Octane” Mean?
Octane is a standard measure of how well a gasoline can keep from igniting too soon in the engine's combustion chamber.
A higher octane rating allows engines to run more smoothly by reducing the following issues:
➤ Engine knocking
➤ Vibrations
➤ Irregular combustion
In simple terms, the higher the pressure inside the engine, the higher the octane level needed for stable and efficient performance.
Why Is the Number 98 Important?
The number 98 is the fuel's Research Octane Number (RON). This number shows how resistant the gasoline is to igniting on its own when exposed to high pressure during combustion.
Saudi Arabia, like most countries around the world, uses the RON system to classify gasoline. Some countries use different measurement systems, which can show octane numbers that are four to five points lower than RON ratings. Most Viewed: KSA mandates 30% Saudization of 46 Engineering professions
Is Gasoline 98 Suitable for All Vehicles?
Saudi Fuel clarified that Gasoline 98 is not suitable for all vehicles. It should only be used in engines designed to operate at high compression levels, either because of their mechanical design or because they use turbocharging or similar systems.
Using a higher octane fuel than your engine needs does not automatically improve performance in standard vehicles.
Drivers are advised to check their vehicle owner’s manual or contact an authorized dealer to confirm the correct fuel type for their car.
No “Best” Fuel, Only the Right One
Saudi Fuel emphasized that there is no single gasoline type that is best for all vehicles. Each fuel grade is designed to meet specific engine requirements, balancing performance, fuel efficiency, and operating costs.
For drivers who are unsure which fuel to use, the advice is simple: always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations instead of choosing gasoline based only on the octane number. Follow us: Like and Follow Saudi Expatriates on Facebook
