King Khalid Airport Flight Delays Hit Domestic and International Airlines in Riyadh
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh experienced major flight delays on Friday, affecting several domestic and international airlines. Many passengers reported long waiting times and heavy crowding in airport terminals during the morning.
The airport explained in an official statement that several operational issues over the past two days caused the delays. The diversion of multiple flights from other airports to Riyadh was one reason for the delays. Another factor was scheduled maintenance work on the airport’s fuel system. According to the airport, these combined issues caused changes to flight schedules, including delays and cancellations for some airlines.
The Riyadh Airport advised passengers to contact their airlines before traveling to the airport to check flight times and status. It said this would help reduce congestion inside the terminals.
The airport emphasized that passenger safety is its top priority. It added that operational teams are working continuously, in coordination with airlines and relevant authorities, to return airport operations to normal as quickly as possible.
Separately, Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) said a temporary technical issue at King Khalid International Airport affected flight operations for several airlines, including Saudia itself. This led to delays and cancellations of both departing and arriving flights.
Saudia confirmed that it is working closely with Riyadh Airports Company to handle the situation. The airline said it is contacting affected passengers through different communication channels and has waived fees for rebooking or changing travel plans.
Saudia also advised passengers to check their flight status before going to the airport. Most Viewed: Saudi Arabia and India agree on mutual short-stay visa exemption
