Saudi Arabia Arrests 1,383 for Illegal Passenger Transport in One Week

A total of 1,383 people were arrested in one week for being involved in unlicensed passenger transport services. Between Saturday, Nov. 8, and Friday, Nov. 14, the Transport General Authority (TGA) conducted inspection raids, capturing these violators.

These individuals faced legal action, in cooperation with other government authorities, for providing passenger transport services without a license in different regions of the Kingdom. The penalties included impounding their vehicles and issuing fines.

According to the TGA, its inspection teams arrested 662 people who were hailing passengers using their private cars without a license and 721 people who were transporting travelers illegally in their private vehicles. Most Viewed: Two Saudi brothers found 100,000 riyals in Tayma

The TGA stated that these campaigns support its ongoing work to improve competition in the transport sector and stop illegal practices that affect the quality of transportation and the safety of passengers. This effort also helps raise compliance levels in passenger transport, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

The authority added that the new Land Transport Law clearly bans operating any transport service without a valid license. For repeated violations, penalties include fines up to SR11,000 and vehicle impoundment for 25 days for those who hail people for rides.

Those who actually transport passengers without a license may face fines up to SR20,000 and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days. Vehicles may also be sold at a public auction, and non-Saudis may be deported if they repeat these violations. Recommend: 6-month grace period for runaway domestic workers
