Israel’s Strike on Doha Sparks Arab-Islamic Emergency Meeting
Leaders from Arab and Islamic countries are holding an emergency meeting in Qatar after Israel’s air strike on Hamas leaders in Doha last week.
A draft resolution shared with Reuters accuses Israel of “genocide, ethnic cleansing, and starvation,” saying these actions threaten peace. Israel has strongly denied the claims. Analysts believe no military response will come from the summit. Trending: Complete guide for Umrah visa from India
Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani asked the world to stop using “double standards” and to punish Israel.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that “Qatar has been a very great ally” but warned all sides to be careful when attacking. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, now in Israel, said Trump “didn’t like the way the Qatar attack happened.” Rubio will meet Israeli leaders to discuss the Gaza war and regional issues.
The UN Security Council condemned the Israeli strike, stressing the need for calm and expressing support for Qatar. Israeli President Isaac Herzog justified the attack, stating its purpose was to encourage Hamas leaders to reach a deal.
On September 9, Hamas confirmed that its leaders had survived the strike, but five members, including the son of top negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, lost their lives. A Qatari security officer also died.
Qatar has hosted Hamas’ political office since 2012 and has been a key mediator in indirect talks with Israel. It is also home to a large U.S. airbase. Most Viewed: Seasonal Influenza vaccine is now available in Saudi Arabia for these categories
Statements from Leaders at the Summit
➤ Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani: He called Israel’s government extremist, racist, and terrorist. He warned that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s dream of dominating the Arab region is a “dangerous illusion.” He said Israel continues war, settlement expansion, and interference in Syria and Lebanon. The Emir called the strike on Doha cowardly, illegal, and shocking, especially as Hamas was discussing a ceasefire proposal during the attack.
➤ King Abdullah II of Jordan: He said Qatar’s security is the security of all Arabs and called the strike on Doha a “brutal aggression” that could lead to more conflict. He urged strong decisions to stop Israeli threats.
➤ Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi: He stated that Israel has crossed all boundaries, transforming the region into a battleground and breaching international law. He confirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Qatar and condemned Israel’s attack as a serious threat to regional security.
➤ Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani: He said Arab states must move beyond condemnation to real, united action. He warned that the Doha strike spreads chaos and undermines chances for peace.
➤ Saudi Arabia: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is leading the Kingdom’s delegation at the summit in Doha, representing King Salman and the Saudi government. Join Saudi Expatriates news on Telegram
