No work permits for newly hired Expat workers for Yellow status companies - Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development


No work permits will be issued to the newly hired expat workers of companies and establishments that comes under the 'Yellow' category status of the Updated Nitaqat Saudization program, said the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development of Saudi Arabia. This came in response from the Ministry to the queries on the possibility of issuing a work permit for the newly recruited foreign worker in the company that falls within the yellow category of the Updated Nitaqat system.

- The Ministry further clarified that the work permit of the expat worker in the yellow category company would not able to renew in case of the worker spending more than 6 years in the Kingdom. Trending : Procedure to check your company Nitaqat status color

- In the year 2020, the Ministry removed the yellow status of the Nitaqat program and shifting the yellow category companies to the red band and to consider noncompliant with Saudization levels until their status improves. Such downgraded companies will not able to apply for new visa for expatriates, change their expat workers professions or renew work permits until their ratings improve.





- The Ministry started implementing the Updated Nitaqat program for all private sector companies from 1st December 2021, the was in line with the Ministry's labor market strategy that aims to enhance market efficiency and prove new attractive jobs for young Saudi men and women.

- The aim of the Updated Nitaqat system is to increase and expand job opportunities, raise the participation of Saudi citizens in the labor market and contributing to the Kingdom's GDP. The program which is in line with the other Saudization programs launched by the ministry, targeting more than 340,000 jobs within 3 years. The first version of the Nitaqat program was launched in 2011, with the aim of encouraging Saudization of jobs and set a minimum salary for Saudi nationals in the private sector.
