Jeddah Records Second-Highest Rainfall in Recent Years confirms NCM

The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) announced that Jeddah recorded 135 millimeters of rain on December 7, making it the city’s second-highest rainfall in recent years.

The highest rainfall ever recorded in Jeddah happened on November 24, 2022, when the southern part of the city received 179 millimeters of rain between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

This amount broke previous records of 90 millimeters in 2009 and 111 millimeters in 2011.

The NCM said that this heavy rainfall shows the success of the flood drainage projects carried out by the Makkah Region Emirate in Jeddah. Most Viewed: Watch the video of Jeddah flash flood

To provide permanent solutions for rainwater and flood drainage, several large projects have been completed. These include eight major projects, such as

➤ Building five dams with additional support dams

➤ Creating a spillway for the dams

➤ Constructing drainage channels, roads, and various infrastructure

➤ Building the Wadi Ghaya Dam, Umm Hablain Dam, Wadi Daghbaj Dam, Wadi Buraiman Dam, and Wadi Ghulail Dam

Expanding the current rainwater drainage systems in Jeddah's southern, eastern, and northern regions is also a part of the projects.

Additionally, a new rainwater drainage channel is being built next to King Abdulaziz International Airport. Recommend: Saudi Arabia calls residents to activate National Address before 2026
