Saudi Ministry of Health Summons Doctor for Violating Medical Ethics
The Ministry of Health has called in a doctor for questioning after he made remarks about family relationships and social values. The Ministry said his statements violated Saudi Arabia’s medical ethics and the professional duties required from licensed healthcare workers.
The Ministry explained that the medical code of conduct clearly says that practitioners must share reliable, professionally approved information. If they express personal opinions that are not part of accepted medical practice, they must make this clear to the public. Recommend: New labor law violations and penalties in Saudi Arabia
It stressed that all healthcare practitioners must follow professional and ethical rules and fully comply with the Kingdom’s health regulations. Protecting credibility and public trust is a key part of the healthcare system.
The Law of Practicing Healthcare Professions forms the basis of Saudi Arabia's medical code of conduct, which establishes stringent regulations to safeguard the well-being, rights, and dignity of patients.
The code lists the duties of responsible medical practice, such as providing treatment only within one’s certified specialty, respecting patient rights, obtaining informed consent, and keeping patient information confidential.
It also bans practitioners from taking advantage of patients in any way and requires them to maintain the highest level of professionalism at all times.
According to the code, doctors must act in the best interests of patients and society, stay fully licensed, keep their medical knowledge updated, provide proper care, and respect patient decisions in line with Sharia and approved medical standards.
The code further requires practitioners to follow established medical guidelines, respect Saudi customs and traditions, and commit to ongoing professional development to ensure their skills remain current. Most Viewed: MHRSD extends Huroob grace period for domestic workers
The Ministry repeated that these principles form the foundation of ethical medical practice in the Kingdom and warned that any breach of these rules harms the public trust that all healthcare professionals must uphold.
