Saudi Arabia Highlights Fair Access to Critical Minerals and AI at G20 Summit
On behalf of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan took part in the second day of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday. He joined a panel titled “A fair and equitable future for all critical minerals: decent work and artificial intelligence.”
During his speech, Prince Faisal praised South Africa’s presidency of the G20 and its work in shaping this year’s goals. He highlighted the importance of fair and equal access to critical minerals and the need for fair investment in these resources. He described critical minerals as essential for economic growth, for supporting development, and for protecting the environment as the world moves toward green economies and clean technologies.
Prince Faisal said that Saudi Arabia considers artificial intelligence (AI) a major force for innovation, better use of resources, and sustainability across different sectors.
He added that responsible AI development needs dialogue, cooperation, joint action, respect for international law, consumer protection, and strong protection of intellectual property. These elements, he said, help create a fair and inclusive system for governing AI.
Prince Faisal also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to working with G20 countries to build a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable global economy. He said this system should be based on cooperation, innovation, and equal opportunity while supporting shared prosperity and protecting the futures of coming generations.
