Saudi Arabia Contributes $500 Million to Protect 370 Million Children from Polio
To aid in the annual protection of 370 million children from polio, Saudi Arabia inked two massive agreements in 2025, with a combined value of over $500 million. These agreements are part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to fight polio in countries that need help.
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian organization, is leading these efforts. On World Polio Day (celebrated every year on October 24), KSrelief highlighted Saudi Arabia’s strong global role in supporting healthcare and fighting epidemics and diseases. Through KSrelief, Saudi Arabia joins global efforts to eradicate polio. The Kingdom aims to reduce the devastating effect of the condition on the health of the general public by enhancing public awareness of its risks.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making huge progress toward getting rid of polio all across the world. The Kingdom works together with global health organizations to deliver vaccinations, start awareness campaigns, and help countries that need it with medical and logistical needs.
The first arrangement, which is worth $300 million, would help pay for the WHO in countries that are especially weak. Topics covered include:
➤ Preventive and technical programs
➤ Epidemiological surveillance (tracking disease spread)
➤ Treatment and elimination activities in endemic areas, especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan
It also helps national programs in countries close to eradicating polio and strengthens health systems by improving preventive programs, resources, and medical supplies. Recommend: Penalty for canceling expired visa
The second agreement, worth $200 million, supports the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in high-risk countries. It includes:
➤ Buying vaccines and carriers
➤ Improving cold chain systems using solar-powered refrigeration units
➤ Supporting primary healthcare centers
➤ Organizing vaccination campaigns
➤ Promoting community engagement through health education
These agreements demonstrate Saudi Arabia's robust global dedication to safeguarding children, strengthening healthcare systems, and permanently eliminating polio. See Also: Saudi Arabia implements 2nd phase of Saudization in these 4 professions
