Saudi Arabia Tightens Penalties for Traffic Violations with amendment in Article 74 of Traffic Law



The Ministry of Interior, through the General Directorate of Traffic, announced that changes are being made to Article 74 of the Traffic Law’s executive regulations in cooperation with other authorities.

A royal decree (No. M/50, issued on 2/3/1447 AH) approved these changes. Article 74 deals with traffic violations that put public safety at risk. Related: Saudi Arabia to deport expats for serious violations

Key points of the amendment:

➤ The Ministry of Interior can deport non-Saudis if a final court ruling finds them guilty of dangerous traffic violations.

➤ Deported individuals will also be banned from reentering Saudi Arabia, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, and Public Prosecution.

➤ The executive regulations will clarify which foreign drivers are exempt from deportation in such cases. Most Viewed: New taxi and airport transport regulations for 2025

Penalties for repeat violations:

🔘 Second offense within one year → The violator will face the maximum fine.

🔘 Third offense within the same year → The case will go to a competent court. The court may either:

• Impose a prison sentence of up to one year, OR

• Double the fine from the second offense.
