Saudi Arabia Deports Thousands After Arresting 20,882 Illegal Residents in Nationwide Crackdown



Saudi security forces arrested 20,882 illegal residents in one week, the Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday. Security forces and other government agencies carried out joint inspections between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, resulting in the arrests.

Out of those arrested:

➤ 4,185 broke the Border Security Law.

➤ 3,722 broke the Labor Law.

Authorities also reported:

🔘 22,550 violators were sent to their embassies to get travel documents.

🔘 2,394 violators were sent to complete travel bookings.

🔘 10,895 violators were deported.

During the same period, 1,244 people were caught trying to cross into Saudi Arabia illegally. Of these, 33% were Yemeni, 66% Ethiopian, and 1% from other nationalities. Furthermore, 21 people were caught trying to leave Saudi Arabia illegally. Recommend: Upcoming World's tallest towers

In addition, 20 people were arrested for helping violators by giving them transport, shelter, or jobs. Currently, 29,571 expatriates (including 26,779 men and 2,792 women) are under legal procedures.

The Ministry of Interior warned that anyone who helps illegal residents—by bringing them in, transporting them, giving them housing, or providing other support—can face:

■ Up to 15 years in prison.

■ A fine of up to SR1 million.

■ Confiscation of vehicles or houses used in the crime.

The ministry also asked the public to report violators by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 999 or 996 in other regions. Follow Saudi Expatriates on LinkedIn
