Palestine Welcomes UN New York Declaration Backed by Saudi Arabia, France, and Global Powers
After the historic New York Declaration was supported by all nations at the UN meeting, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised Saudi Arabia, France, and the UN. This declaration, which has been endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly, demands an end to the humanitarian catastrophe and occupation, as well as the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully and securely alongside Israel. In a speech delivered on his behalf at the high-level international conference on Palestine and the two-state solution at UN headquarters in New York, Abbas said the declaration highlights the urgent need to stop the war against the Palestinian people. He strongly rejected the use of siege, starvation, and destruction as methods to achieve security.
Abbas praised Saudi Arabia and France, the co-chairs of the conference, for helping win international recognition for Palestine and promoting the two-state solution based on international law.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States as mediators. Abbas stressed that only the State of Palestine is entitled to govern Gaza, through a temporary administrative committee connected to the Palestinian government in the West Bank, with Arab and international support.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the joint statement issued at the conference. The ministry praised Saudi Arabia and France for building wide international support for the New York Declaration and for their determination to make sure it is carried out at every stage. The ministry called on all countries to quickly sign and adopt the declaration to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to implement all its provisions along with the joint statement.
