Can You Extend an Exit and Re-Entry Visa After One Year of its Expiration? Jawazat clarifies

The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) in Saudi Arabia has stressed that it is permissible to renew an exit and re-entry visa one year after it has expired, as long as the below conditions are met and the resident's iqama (residency permission) is still valid.

Can an Exit and Re-Entry Visa Be Extended After Expiration?

One beneficiary asked the Passports Department if it is possible to renew an exit and re-entry visa one year after its expiration when the residency is still valid.

The Passports Department confirmed that exit and re-entry visas can only be extended for residents who are outside the Kingdom if both the visa and the residency are still valid.

If the visa itself has expired, it cannot be extended, even if the residency is valid. Read: Jawazat launches Absher Travel Service requests

However, if the beneficiary is still officially registered and the visa is valid, the exit and re-entry visa can be extended electronically for residents outside Saudi Arabia. Here is how to extend an exit and re-entry visa.

The extension can be completed online after paying the required fees through the SADAD payment system, using:

🔘 Absher platform (for individuals)

🔘 Muqeem platform (for employers)

Conditions for Extending an Exit and Re-Entry Visa

To successfully extend the visa, the following conditions must be met:

➤ The resident’s ID (iqama) must be valid for at least 90 days

➤ The beneficiary must still be registered in the system

➤ Required fees must be paid through SADAD

Duration of Exit and Re-Entry Visas

The Passports Department also explained how the duration of exit and re-entry visas is calculated:

■ If the visa duration is set as 60, 90, or 120 days, the visa is valid for three months from the date of issuance for travel. The actual visa duration starts with the date of travel, not the issuance date.

■ If the length of the visa is indicated in days or by the date of return, its validity is determined at the date of issuance. Most Viewed: Procedure to update Iqama details through Absher
