Saudi Arabia adds 5,969 new Urban historic sites to National Urban Heritage Register
A total of 34,171 sites have been registered in the National Urban Heritage Register as of Sunday, with 5,969 additional sites being declared by the Saudi Heritage Commission. This is a reflection of the unique and rich architectural history seen throughout the kingdom. Recommend: Saudi Arabia surpasses again 100 million visitors in 2024
Many locations in different parts of the kingdom were added to the updated list of participants. Each of the following regions has a certain number of sites: Riyadh (258), Makkah (483), Qassim (761), Asir (3,893), Al-Baha (499), Hail (60), Jazan (8 sites), Al-Jouf (4 sites), and the Eastern Province (3 sites).
The decision by the Heritage Commission's Board of Directors to grant the CEO the right to register urban heritage sites was followed by this registration, which was carried out in compliance with legislation pertaining to antiquities and urban heritage.
In doing so, we hope to better safeguard these areas from development and neglect so that they will be around for decades to come. Read: Saudi Arabia issues new rules on credit cards
This move is in line with the commission's long-term goal of increasing the amount of time that historic sites are legally protected so that they can be restored in a way that pays homage to the kingdom's rich architectural history while also strengthening national pride.
In its appeal for public assistance, the commission urged everyone to report suspicious activity at heritage sites using the "Balagh" service, contacting the commission through its official social media channels, or dialing the Unified Security Operations Center's 911 number.
Preserving and activating the nation's urban legacy relies heavily on citizen involvement, according to the commission. Trending: Procedure to extend visit visa before its expiry
