NCM Warns of Cold Wave and Subzero Temperatures in several parts of Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has forecast a drop in temperatures in several parts of the Kingdom starting Wednesday. Freezing weather, including temperatures below zero, is expected in northern and central regions from January 14 to January 17, lasting through Saturday.
The NCM predicts that the cold wave will primarily affect the northern borderlands and the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and Hail regions. The Madinah region's northern parts will also feel its effects. Starting on Wednesday, these circumstances will last until the end of the week. Read: Riyadh Metro's Red line to get extension with 5 new stations
Minimum temperatures in these areas are predicted to be between -3°C and -1°C. Freezing conditions are likely during the night and early morning hours.
The NCM said the cold air mass will move further south on Friday and Saturday. This will cause lower temperatures in the Qassim region, the northern parts of the Eastern Province, and the Riyadh region.
In these areas, minimum temperatures are forecast to range from −4°C to 1°C. These temperatures are considered very cold for this time of year.
The forecast comes after several recent weather warnings issued by the NCM. These included alerts about rainfall and colder-than-normal weather during the mid-school-year break. Most Viewed: Saudi Arabia's oldest known man dies at the age of 142
People in the impacted areas should take precautions against the cold, particularly at night, according to the NCM. Official weather reports from the NCM should be followed by residents to be informed as conditions continue to change.
