SFDA Launches AI “Rasid” Service to Regulate Travelers’ Medications
The CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jadhaie, launched a new service called “Rasid (Monitor)” during the World Health Forum in Riyadh, held from October 27 to 30.
The Monitor service uses artificial intelligence (AI) to manage and control the entry of medications brought by travelers. It was created by Saudi experts in the SFDA’s “Cell” AI laboratory, marking a major move from traditional inspection methods to smart, data-driven protection. The main goal of this service is to make it easier to monitor restricted medications that travelers bring with them and to solve previous challenges, such as:
➤ Slow inspection procedures,
➤ Medications labeled in different languages, and
➤ Difficulty reading handwritten prescriptions.
By solving these issues, Rasid or Monitor service improves the travel experience for visitors entering the Kingdom. Recommend: Saudi Arabia rejects Lionel Messi's offer to play during MLS break
The system automatically checks whether a traveler’s medication matches their medical report or whether the amount matches their prescription. It can process information in over 50 languages, completing the verification quickly and accurately.
Monitor is one of the key projects from the SFDA’s “Cell” Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, which was launched in February. The lab serves as a platform for developing and adopting AI-based solutions that increase innovation and improve the efficiency of the Authority’s work.
It also helps strengthen partnerships with other government bodies and tech companies to share knowledge and build expertise in AI. This supports the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program, part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. See Also: Saudi Arabia launches AI Physician
