New Regulations on Fruit and Vegetable Packaging & Labels
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has set new rules for how fruits and vegetables must be packaged and labeled before being sold in public markets. These rules are made to keep food safe and high quality during storage, transport, and handling.
The ministry asked farmers, producers, and investors to obey these rules. This supports public health, protects the environment, and matches the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Trending: Saudi Arabia bans passengers from traveling in vehicles without permits
Label rules:
Every packaged unit of fruits or vegetables must be labeled that shows:
➤ Name of the product
➤ Net weight
➤ Packaging date
➤ Country of origin
➤ Supplier or producer details (registration number, name, and logo).
Packaging rules:
🔹 Packaging must use safe, strong, and recyclable food-grade materials.
🔹 It should allow good air circulation.
🔹 Cardboard packaging must be made of corrugated cardboard.

Cardboard box rules:
■ Boxes used on pallets must be covered on the outside to stop contamination during storage and transport.
■ Inside surfaces can be lined, coated, or treated with moisture-resistant material, but it must not damage the fruits.
