MHRSD launches Initiative to correct Absent From Work status in Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) in Saudi Arabia announced on Monday a new initiative through the Qiwa platform to correct the status of professional workers marked as “absent from work.” This program starts on September 18, 2025, and allows affected workers to legally transfer their sponsorship to a new employer.

The ministry said the goal of the initiative is to protect worker rights, improve the labor market, and ensure compliance with laws. Trending: Qiwa updates Absence reporting system and employment contracts

The initiative applies to several cases:

➤ Workers whose status changed to “absent from work” after the 60-day grace period for being away from the job.

➤ Workers whose status changed after their contract ended or was terminated.

➤ Expatriates with absence reports filed before the launch of this initiative.

To qualify, the new employer must pay any late fees for the worker’s permit. Also, the worker must have spent at least 12 continuous months in the Kingdom before leaving the job or before the contract expired.

The ministry emphasized that this initiative is part of its continuous work to organize the labor market, provide new solutions, and create a fair and attractive work environment that follows regulations.
