Two-Term Academic Calendar Returns for Saudi Schools

The Saudi government has decided that public schools will return to a two-semester school year starting in 2025 (1447/1448 Hijri ). The Ministry of Education shared this news after getting approval from the Cabinet.

This change comes after reviewing the current three-semester system, which was part of education improvements under Vision 2030. Recommend: New law allows non-Saudis to own property in Saudi Arabia

The three-term model helped schools reach 180 teaching days per year, similar to other major countries. But after listening to teachers, students, and parents, the government chose to go back to two semesters.

The ministry's statement stressed the importance of factors other than the overall number of semesters when assessing the quality of education. Training for educators, improved educational programs, and a suitable classroom setting are of equal importance.

The decision also benefits schools in cities such as Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif, which require special schedules during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. Most Viewed: Digital Visitor ID can be used within Saudi Arabis instead of a passport.

Only public schools will follow the new two-semester plan. While the universities, training institutions, and private and international schools will still be able to set their own academic calendar, the best that suits their needs.
