Saudi Arabia Records 53% Drop in Dust and Sandstorms in 2025
The Regional Center for Dust and Sandstorms reported that Saudi Arabia saw a 53% drop in dust and sandstorm activity between January and July 2025 compared to past averages for the same months.
Executive Director Jamaan Al-Qahtani explained that the decline varied month by month:
➤ January: 80% decrease
➤ February: 40% decrease Most Viewed: Saudi Arabia to offer voluntary pension and savings scheme for Saudis and Expats
➤ March: 75% decrease
➤ April: 41% decrease
➤ May: 40% decrease
➤ June: 59% decrease
➤ July: 41% decrease
Al-Qahtani said this improvement is the result of combined national environmental efforts, such as the Saudi Green Initiative, cloud seeding programs, expansion of vegetation projects, stricter grazing rules, and the protection of ecosystems through royal reserves.
He also pointed to positive climate changes in air mass patterns that helped improve air quality and reduce dust sources.
The center highlighted that these results are strong evidence of the success of Saudi Arabia’s national strategies in fighting extreme weather and supporting environmental sustainability. Read: New version of Birth and Death certificates launched with QR code
