Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Passes Away After Two Decades in Coma


Prince Khaled bin Talal publicly announced Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal's passing on Saturday. The father of the deceased, Prince Khaled, said that funeral prayers will be held on Sunday at Riyadh's Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, following the Asr prayer.

Public personalities, influential community members, and state officials expressed their deepest sympathies to Prince Khalid bin Talal and his grieving family.

The Sleeping Prince, Prince Alwaleed, was born in April 1990 and was a top student at the Military College until he was severely injured in a car accident in 2005. He was involved in an accident while studying in the UK, which left him in a full coma for approximately two decades. 

Despite irregular periods of limited movement that offered short glimpses of hope, he remained under close medical supervision at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh without ever regaining consciousness. Recommend: Makkah's Clock Tower Museum

His condition remained critical until the day he passed away, even though he experienced periodic mild neurological reactions. Prince Khaled's unfaltering belief that the Almighty alone controls life and death manifested itself during this time as he adamantly opposed the removal of life support.

Millions of people across the Kingdom and all over the world have followed his son's tale closely over the years due to the great sympathy that his condition has garnered.
