Saudi Arabia denied entry to 269,678 people from entering into Makkah without permits
As part of their crackdown on prohibited travel into the city of Makkah, Saudi officials said on Sunday that over 269,000 persons without permits for the annual Hajj pilgrimage were prevented from entering Makkah. Most Viewed: Working hours of Jawazat during Eid Al Adha holidays
People who are not officially part of the Hajj are to blame for the crowds, according to the administration. They were also heavily represented among the victims of last year's brutal summer heat, according to the report.
The giant demand for the Hajj and the large number of removals indicate the level to which people are making unapproved pilgrimages. Currently, Makkah hosts around 1.4 million pilgrims, with more expected to arrive soon.
If you undertake the Hajj without the proper paperwork, you could face deportation, fines of up to $5,000, and other severe consequences. Citizens and permanent residents of Saudi Arabia are covered by the policy.
Authorities in Makkah announced during a news conference that a lack of permits prevented 269,678 individuals from entering the city. The regulations allow only those with permissions to perform the pilgrimage, even if they reside in the city year-round. See Also: Riyadh Metro and city bus timings during Eid Al Adha holidays
In addition to revoking the licenses of 400 Hajj companies and fining over 23,000 Saudi residents for violating Hajj rules, officials have taken disciplinary action.
"The pilgrim is in our sight, and anyone who disobeys is in our hands," Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Omari told the reporters.
As part of their yearly religious journey to Makkah, Muslims perform a series of rites known as the Hajj. Every Muslim who is financially and physically capable of doing so has a once-in-a-lifetime responsibility to perform it.
The first-ever use of drones at the Hajj was announced on Sunday by Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense. These drones serve various purposes, such as extinguishing fires and monitoring the surroundings. Trending: Saudi Arabia announces Eid Al Adha holidays
