India revises Travel rules for International Arrivals, Random testing of Covid-19 returns at Airport


The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has issued guidelines for international arrivals in backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic and updated the same from time to time. The statement from ministry said the present guidelines are being revised in light of increasing the Covid-19 cases being noted in some countries across the world.







As per the new rules, 2% of the total passengers in a flight would undergo random Covid-19 test at the airport on arrival. Such travelers in each flight shall be identified by the concerned airlines. They will submit the samples and shall be allowed to leave the airport after that, added thee guidelines.

- The statement further added that, if such travelers samples were tested positive, it should be further sent to genomic testing in INSACOG laboratory network and they will be treated and isolated as per the standard protocol. - All travelers should self monitor their health after arrival and shall report to their nearest health facility or call National Helpline 1075, in case they have any suggested symptoms.





- Children below 12 years of age are exempted from post-arrival random testing. However, in case of symptomatic of Covid-19 on arrival or during the period of self-monitoring, they shall undergo testing and treated as per the protocol.

- This statement provides protocols to be compiled by international travelers as well as points of entry like airports, sea ports and land border and shall be valid from 24th December 2022 (10 AM) till further orders. Most Viewed : Saudization of Customer service and legal professions

Planning for Travel :

- All travelers should preferably be fully vaccinated as per the approved primary schedule of vaccination against Covid-19 in their country.




During Travel :

In-flight announcement about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic including precautionary measures to be followed, wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing, in flights and at all entry points. Any passenger having signs of Covid-19 during travel shall be isolated as per standard protocol, that passenger should be wearing mask, isolated and separated from other passengers in flight or travel and shifted to an isolation facility subsequently for follow up treatment. On Arrival :

- De-boarding should be done ensuring physical distancing. Thermal screening should be done in respect of all passengers by the health official present at the point of entry. Passengers found to be symptomatic during screening shall be immediately isolated, taken to a designated medical facility as per health protocol.
