So far, No cases of Monkeypox detected in Saudi Arabia, Know more about this disease


The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia confirmed that so far, no case of Monkeypox has been recorded in the Kingdom, which is recently appeared in some European and North American countries, after it has been endemic in some African countries for more than 50 years. This comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an warning after more cases of monkeypox virus reported in several countries. So far WHO recorded 92 confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases in 12 countries including European countries, United States, Canada and Australia.

- The Ministry of Health explained its complete readiness to monitor, investigate and with such infections in case if it appears, drawing attention to the fact that all medical and laboratory tests are available and it also has an integrated preventive and treatment plan to deal with such cases if they appear, it also include the definition of suspected and confirmed cases and dealing with it and the epidemiological investigation of contacts. - The Ministry added that the International Health Regulations program in the Kingdom is in constant touch with the World Health Organization to know the details of any developments abou the monkeypox or monitor any cases around the world to make sure that there are no contacts with any cases monitored in Saudi Arabia.

According to an Infectious Diseases Consultant, Monkeypox is a well-known viral disease and the chances of its transmission between humans are very small. It can transmit by direct contact with animals infected with the disease. While in person to person is only by very close direct contact, through droplets and coughs and this is rare.

Is there any vaccine against Monkeypox?

What are the symptoms of Monkeypox?

According to WHO, the symptoms for the monkeypox disease are skin rash, fever to 38.5 degree Celsius, headache, swollen lymph nodes, backpain and weakness.
