United Arab Emirates launches a new 50-dirham banknote, the first of its Kind in the country


The Central Bank of United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched a new 50 dirham banknote on the occasion of the 50th National Day. This issuance of the banknote comes in memory of the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, and the first generation of rulers of the Emirates. The 50-dirham banknote is the first polymer note, which is the best material for making banknotes to be circulated in the United Arab Emirates.

- Banknotes made of this material are more durable and sustainable than traditional paper notes and last two or more times as long as cotton banknotes, and can be completely recycled, this contributing to efforts to reduce the environmental footprint. - The front side of the banknote is featured with the image of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the right side, and in middle is the memorial picture of founding fathers after signing the union document.





- While the backside of new 50-dirham banknote includes a portrait of Sheikh Zayed signing the union agreement including illustration of the Etihad Museum, which witnessed the establishment of Union and raised the UAE flag for the first time.

- In this new note, the Central Bank was keen to maintain its permanent approach by adding prominent symbols in Braille to help blind and visually impaired customers identify the value of the banknote. It has advanced security features and it has been relied on advanced technologies to improve customer confidence and combat counterfeiting. - Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of UAE Central Bank said the launch of the new 50-dirham denomination note coincides with the celebrations of the UAE's golden jubilee of its unification, which was established on 2nd December 1971.





- He added that, We see this issuance of a note, as a sign of UAE entering into a new phase in its history and a renewed pledge to continue process of economic and social growth.
