120,000 Lightning units Illuminate Makkah's Grand Mosque (Pictures)
120,000 lighting units are used to illuminate the Makkah's Grand Mosque, its courtyards, roofs and minarets, forming a unique lighting pattern that favors a spiritual atmosphere to worshippers and allow them to carry out their rituals with ease.
The lightning units of outstanding sizes and shapes have been custom-manufactured for the Grand Mosque, reflecting the interest of the authorities to develop and improve facilities at the Two Holy Mosques.
- According to Saudi Press Agency, The lighting units include 304 chandeliers of different shapes and sizes in the second expansion of the Grand Mosque and more than a 1,000 units installed on the pillars and external walls of the Holy mosque. - The Assitant Director of the General Administration for Operation and Maintenance of Field Affairs Amer Bin Awad Al Luqmani said that lightning units are distributed across the Holy Mosque and are connected with a special control station that uses the latest available global technologies.
- Maintenance teams and technicians monitor the units and every lightning point inside the Grand Mosque and evaluate their effectiveness continuously.

- He said that the lightning units spread their lights across the courtyards and minarets of the Grand Mosque and its neighboring atmospheres with 2,000 watts of power of each unit, adding beauty to the sanctity of the place.
