TGA Cracks Down on Illegal Taxis: 606 Caught Violating Saudi Transport Law
The Transport General Authority (TGA) in Saudi Arabia continued its inspection campaigns across the country from October 4 to 10. During this period, the Transport General Authority (TGA) detained 606 violators for participating in unlicensed passenger transport, locally known as "Al-Kadadah."
The violators faced legal actions, including vehicle impoundment and financial fines, with the help of several related authorities. Most Viewed: GCC Countries Plan New Sugar-Based Excise Model for Sweetened Beverages by 2026
According to the TGA, inspection teams found 362 people involved in preparatory activities, such as calling for passengers using private cars without permission, and 244 others were caught transporting passengers illegally in their own vehicles.
The authority said these inspection campaigns aim to improve competition in the transport sector, stop illegal practices that lower service quality and endanger passenger safety, and increase compliance with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
The TGA also reminded the public that the new Land Transport Law, issued under Royal Decree No. (M/188) on 24/08/1446 AH, strictly bans unlicensed passenger transport operations.
Under this law:
➤ Repeat violators who call for passengers illegally can face fines up to SR11,000 and vehicle impoundment for 25 days.
➤ Illicit passenger transporters risk fines of up to SR20,000 and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days.
➤ The law also allows selling the violator's vehicle at a public auction and deporting non-Saudi offenders if they repeat the violation. Recommend: Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) Updates Rules for Expatriate and Visitor Bank Accounts
