Saudi Arabia Jails 4 Expats and a Citizen for Commercial Concealment; Fines and Deportations Ordered
A Saudi court sentenced one Saudi citizen and four expatriates to two years in prison each and a fine of SR350,000 after finding them guilty of commercial cover-up. Another Saudi citizen was also convicted in the same case.
The court ordered the confiscation of illegal proceeds from the crime, which amounted to over SR293 million, along with 26 vehicles. Recommend: Final call to register for a free online cloud of up to 10 GB for lifetime

The Qassim Court of Appeal upheld the lower court's ruling. The investigation found that the accused were running illegal businesses in the contracting, medical equipment, and tobacco sectors in the Qassim region.
The Ministry of Commerce was ordered to publish the convicts' names and crimes in local media at their own expense. The group included Saudis, Yemenis, and Palestinians.
The court discovered that the Saudi citizens had allowed the expatriates to run commercial activities without a foreign investment license. The court granted the expatriates full control over a company and four affiliated institutions. Their financial transactions were much larger than their official salaries as sales representatives, and they had transferred money from their illegal activities outside the Kingdom.
According to the Anti-Cover-Up Law, penalties for such crimes include up to five years in prison, fines up to SR5 million, and confiscation of illegal funds once a final court ruling is issued. Trending: Insurance coverage to expand to include new categories of individual workers
