Saudi Arabia plans to introduce mandatory fitness testing for Workers in the workplace
Workplace fitness testing will soon be required of all government, private, and non-profit workers and job applicants in the coming years, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD). Most Viewed: Jawazat clarifies on Multiple exit visas
The administration of these tests will depend on specific circumstances. To get everyone's thoughts and feelings before implementing these rules, the ministry put the National Regulations for Occupational Fitness Tests on the Istitlaa Public Survey website.
General medical examination, supplementary specialist testing, and psychological testing will all be part of the process. Both pre-employment and ongoing employee testing are part of a larger effort to track and improve workers' health in the workplace. This approach helps make the workplace safer in the kingdom and lessens the occurrence of occupational diseases and accidents.
Workers' physical and mental well-being, as well as their capacity to carry out their jobs safely and effectively, will be thoroughly evaluated under the new rules.
The testing framework would follow both domestic and global norms and standards. Among these goals are the improvement of workers' physical and mental health, the guarantee of their capacity to carry out their jobs in a safe and effective manner, and the decrease of work-related injuries, accidents, and occupational diseases. Everyone who works for or is hired by a public or private organization, whether they are new hires or already on the payroll, is subject to the rules and regulations set forth in the regulations. Workers are required to undergo this test in specific situations.
These include after suffering an occupational injury, after returning from an extended medical leave, when concerns arise regarding their ability to do their job, when their job or profession requires regular medical exams, when they change careers, when there is a change in the workplace, when new tools or machinery are used, when they retire, and if they were exposed to substances like asbestos while working that have a long latency period.
These rules don't apply to medical exams not related to a job.
To ensure that all employees are in full compliance with occupational safety and health standards, regulations, and international agreements, the regulations outline the process for medical examinations to be conducted before employment in high-risk occupations.
They also standardize medical examination forms, as well as periodic and exceptional examinations that are specific to each profession. An occupational medicine specialist registered with the Secretariat of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health and certified by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties must supervise a specialized team that conducts the medical examination for occupational fitness.
The results of the pre-employment medical examination will indicate whether the candidate is medically fit to practice the profession or job they are applying for, whether they are medically suitable but must adhere to certain restrictions or considerations for the duration of their profession, or whether they are medically unfit but must adhere to certain restrictions or considerations for the duration of their profession.
Supervising management is obligated to take the required steps to change the workers' profession if the occupational fitness standards are not satisfied following the periodic assessment, which will result in the workers' prohibition from continuing to practice their profession.
Employees or workers have 30 days from the date of notification to raise an objection to the test results. After hearing the concerns, an impartial panel of occupational medicine and related experts will discuss the matter for 15 days before issuing a verdict.
