6 types of Leaves for Employees in Saudi Arabia as per Labor Law

Al-Jarfali added, in an interview with Al-Arabiya FM, “the 6 types of leaves in Saudi Arabia’s work law include the following.

1. Official leave: The official leave or holiday is 4 times that all workers of all categories are entitled to, which is for the Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha holidays, the National Day holiday, and the Founding Day holiday. They are due to the worker without exception, and work on them is done with the entitlement to additional pay if there is an agreement between the worker and the employer in this regard.

3. Special leave: As for the special leaves, they include leave at the time of a newborn child, marriage, or death leave, or if the worker has exams in an educational institution, and they range from 10 to 15 days.

4. Leave for women: Maternity leave, leave for death waiting period, etc.

5. Sick leave and

6. Leave without pay: Emergency leave, etc.

Al-Jarfali continued, "The annual leave is granted to the worker after one year; however, the system clarifies that the employer is entitled to postpone that leave for up to 90 days in the interest of work. Any postponement beyond that requires the worker's approval." He also noted that leave without pay is based on an agreement between the employer and the worker.
