11 Expats arrested for promoting fake Hajj campaigns in Saudi Arabia
Five expatriates, including citizens of Sudan and Bangladesh, were arrested in Khamis Mushayt in the Asir region for their roles in fraudulent activities connected to a fake Hajj campaign. Trending: TGA reminds of 100,000 riyals fine for this violation
After initiating the appropriate legal proceedings, the Khamis Mushayt police forwarded the matter to the Public Prosecution.
They arrested the five-person gang for disseminating false information about a Hajj campaign on social media. The ads falsely claimed to offer housing and transportation services to pilgrims within Makkah's holy sites.
Earlier this week, security patrols in Makkah caught four Chinese nationals on charges of fraud. The suspects had advertised on social media, falsely offering Hajj-related services, such as lodging and transportation, which led to victims being misled. After their detention, legal action was taken against them, and the Public Prosecution was notified.
In another case, the Makkah police arrested an Egyptian and a Yemeni for being involved in a similar fraud. A small number of individuals are being held on allegations of posting misleading advertisements for fake Hajj campaigns, which included fraudulent promises of assistance to pilgrims. The individuals in question were arrested, the formalities were undertaken, and the Public Prosecution was notified, as stated by the SPA.
