Saudi Arabia arrests 19,696 Individuals in a span of just 7 days
The Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia on Saturday announced that, 19,696 undocumented resident expats have been arrested around the kingdom in the past seven days. Between November 14 and 20, the security forces and relevant government departments conducted combined field security campaigns, which led to the arrests. Join Saudi Expatriates channel on Facebook
A total of 11,336 people were taken into custody for violations of the Residency Law, 5,176 violators of the Border Security Law, and 3,184 of the Labor Law. Meanwhile, 1,547 individuals caught while attempting to enter the Kingdom illegally, in which 32% were Yemeni, 65% were Ethiopian, and 3% belonged to other nationalities, while 71 were arrested while attempting to exit the Kingdom illegally.
Additionally, 22 individuals were captured for their roles in harboring, transporting, and employing those who break the law, Punitive measures against 22,658 expatriates, 19,651 of whom are men and 3,007 of whom are women, are now being processed through various stages of the legal system.
A grand total of 15,134 offenders were sent to their respective diplomatic posts in order to procure travel documents, 2,656 offenders were reminded to finalize their travel arrangements and 10,666 offenders were deported. A person can face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to SR1 million, and the confiscation of their vehicles or houses used for providing shelter if they assist the illegal entry of individuals into the Kingdom, transport them on its territory, or provide any other service or assistance, according to a warning from the Ministry of the Interior.
As a public service, the ministry has asked everyone in the Kingdom to report violations by dialing 911 in Riyadh, Makkah, and the Eastern Province, or 999 or 996 in any other region of the Kingdom. See Also : SFDA proposes travel ban on Expats involved in food poisoning cases
