 WHO praises Saudi Health Measures for reopening Umrah pilgrimage safely


The World Health Organization (WHO) hailed on the precautionary and preventive measures taken by Saudi Arabia on implementing and confronting the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.



WHO also praised the measures the Kingdom has adopted in ensuring the safety and health of Umrah pilgrim as Saudi Arabia gradually began resuming the pilgrimage earlier this month.

- In his tweet, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the Health Ministry in Saudi Arabia has put in place strong measures, to reopen holiest sites for Umrah pilgrims during Corona pandemic. - In detail the WHO said they are “grateful for Saudi Arabia’s leadership and support to the ACT-Accelerator, he added in reference to the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator.

- ACT-Accelerator is the Global Collaboration to Accelerate the Development, Production and Equitable Access to New Covid-19 diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines, a G20 initiative announced by Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan in April. - Saudi Arabia also has allowed its citizens and resident expatriates to start performing Umrah as of October 4th at 30% capacity or 6,000 pilgrims a day. It will open for Muslims from abroad starting November 1st. The 2nd phase kicked off on Sunday. No virus cases have been reported among the pilgrims, so far.
