Saudi Arabia Expresses Regret Over UAE Actions in Yemen, Says National Security Is a Red Line
Saudi Arabia on Tuesday expressed regret over actions taken by the United Arab Emirates that involved putting pressure on forces linked to Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC). These actions led to military operations close to Saudi Arabia’s southern border, specifically in the Yemeni governorates of Hadramout and Al-Maharah.
In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said these developments pose a serious threat to Saudi Arabia’s national security. The ministry also warned that the situation threatens the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region.
The ministry described the steps taken by the UAE as “highly dangerous” and said they do not align with the principles on which the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen was formed. It added that these actions do not support the coalition’s main goal of achieving security and stability in Yemen. Read: Saudi Arabia bans Promissory Notes for Credit Cards, sets deadline for banks
The statement referred to a previous announcement issued by the Foreign Ministry on December 25, 2025. That statement detailed Saudi Arabia’s efforts, made in coordination with the UAE, to contain and resolve escalating actions carried out by the Southern Transitional Council in eastern Yemen.
Saudi Arabia also cited statements from Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and the coalition’s Joint Forces Command. These statements addressed the movement of ships carrying weapons and heavy military vehicles from the UAE port of Fujairah to the Yemeni port of Al-Mukalla without official approval from coalition leadership.
The Kingdom emphasized that any threat to its national security is unacceptable. It said Saudi Arabia would not hesitate to take all necessary measures to confront and eliminate such threats.
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its firm commitment to Yemen’s security, stability, and sovereignty. It also confirmed its full support for the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.
Riyadh reiterated that the southern issue in Yemen is a legitimate matter with historical and social roots. It emphasized that this issue can only be resolved through dialogue as part of a comprehensive political solution that includes all Yemeni parties, including the Southern Transitional Council. The Kingdom also highlighted the importance of the UAE responding to Yemen’s request for the withdrawal of its military forces within 24 hours. It called for an immediate halt to any military or financial support provided to any Yemeni party.
Saudi Arabia concluded by expressing hope that wisdom, brotherly relations, beneficial neighborly ties, and shared interests between Gulf Cooperation Council states and Yemen would prevail. It urged the UAE to take steps to protect strong bilateral relations and to continue joint efforts aimed at achieving regional stability and prosperity.
