Saudi Arabia is among top 9 countries in the World in reducing Salt consumption


According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report, Saudi Arabia was among the top 9 nations in the world for reducing salt consumption. The legislation passed by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) aims to change societal eating practices that promote healthy eating. Join our Whatsapp group for latest updates







The authority has set a mandatory limit of salt content in all types of food and taken the following actions to reduce the usage of salt in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: 

* All types of bread must not include more than 1 gram of salt per 100 gram of bread.

* The amount of salt in a yoghurt beverage must not be more than 1 gram per 100 milliliters. See Also : Magical benefits of eating water melon

* Salt content in infant and young child food must not exceed 1 gram.

* Establishing a supplemental method that uses a signal to communicate the presence of nutrients, including salt.





* The salt content in a 100ml drink must not be more than 1 gm.

* It must be made clear what the product's nutritional information of the product, including salt.

* Setting limits for the amount of salt in 24 different foods.

Excessive use of salt is associated with health risks and chronic diseases including the following.

1. Heart diseases

2. High Blood Pressure





- The aim of the guideline for the maximum limit of salt in food products law is to improve the nutritional value of food products and to enhance the nutrition patterns in the community to preserve the health of the Saudi citizen, resident expatriates and visitors.
