Saudi Arabia announces February 22nd as annual National Holiday, in celebration of 'Foundation day'


Saudi Arabia issued a royal order declaring 22nd February as the anniversary of the founding of the Saudi state as "Foundation Day", and it is considered as an official holiday every year all over the Kingdom. Join Saudi Expatriates channel on imo mobile app







The royal order issued by Saudi Arabia's King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud through Saudi Press Agency, stating that the move celebrates the history of the state running back hundreds of years. The royal order states the following.

1. The day (February 22) of each year shall be a day to celebrate the founding of the Saudi state, in the name of "Foundation Day", and it becomes an official holiday. Download Saudi Expatriates app from Google Play store for latest updates

2. Our order is communicated to the competent authorities for approval and implementation.





- Saudi Arabia to witness new annual national holiday for the first time this year on 22nd February, it has been created to recognize the foundation of the First Saudi State in 1727 (1139 AH) by Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud.

- The Ancestors of the Saudi royal family first settled alongside Wadi Hanifa in the 15th century, founding the city of Diriyah in 1446. But it was the determination of Imam Mohammed in 1727 to transform the city state into a nation state, with Diriyah as it capital and the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as its constitution, bringing peace and unity to the wider peninsula. - Two centuries later, it come to an end with the unification of the Kingdom and the foundation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by King Abdulaziz in the year 1932.
