Saudi Jawazat Explains Iqama Renewal Rules for Workers in 2025
The General Directorate of Passports (Saudi Jawazat) has clarified the renewal dates and conditions for Resident ID (Iqama) for both commercial and domestic workers in Saudi Arabia.
Iqama Renewal Date
A resident asked whether it is possible to renew an Iqama 150 days before it expires. Recommend: Check Iqama expiry date without using Absher platform
The Passports Department explained that:
✅ For domestic workers, the Resident ID can be renewed if it is less than 14 months old.
✅ For commercial workers, the ID can be renewed if it is valid for less than 6 months, and the worker must have a valid work permit and health insurance.
Validity of the Resident ID (Iqama)
Saudi Jawazat confirmed that:
➤ The Resident ID card is valid for five years from the date it is issued.
➤ It can be renewed every year electronically through the employer’s Absher platform.
➤ Renewal for workers outside the Kingdom can also be done electronically after paying the required fees via SADAD, through Absher Business, or the Muqeem platform by the employer.
Conditions for Renewing Residency
Saudi Jawazat listed the main conditions for renewing a Resident ID (Iqama):
1. Pay all iqama renewal fees for the chosen period.
2. No unpaid traffic fines should be recorded against the worker.
3. The worker’s passport must be valid.
4. The worker must not be marked as absent from work.
5. The worker and family members over 6 years old must have a fingerprint and photo registered in the system.
6. Each family member must have a separate passport—no family members can be included in one passport. Most Viewed: Know the 12 important details available on your iqama
