Saudi Arabia to See Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds Until December 18



The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) predicts thundery rainfall across large parts of Saudi Arabia from Sunday to Thursday, December 14–18. Weather systems moving across the Kingdom will bring different levels of rain, ranging from light showers to heavy storms.

Hail, high winds, valley runoff, and localized flooding are all possible in some regions. In the event of severe storms, residents should adhere to official weather updates and take all necessary safety measures. Weather Conditions and Rainfall Levels

The NCM said rain will vary by region and time, with thunderstorms expected in central, northern, western, and southwestern parts of the country.

➤ Light rain may come with winds up to 50 km/h, which can raise dust and reduce visibility.

➤ Moderate rain may include stronger winds, hail, valley runoff, and higher sea waves along the coast.

➤ Heavy rain could cause intense runoff, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and localized flooding in some areas.

Regions Expected to Receive Heavy Rain

Several regions are forecast to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the week:

Riyadh Region

Rain is expected from December 14–17 in Riyadh city and nearby governorates.

Lighter rain may affect Al-Aflaj, Wadi Al-Dawasir, and Al-Sulayyil.

Eastern Province

Hail, Qassim, and Madinah Regions

Rain is forecast in Hail, Qassim, and the Madinah region, including Madinah city, Yanbu, Al-Ula, Khaybar, and Badr.

Northern Regions

Al-Jouf and the Northern Borders are expected to see the strongest rainfall in the middle of the week, especially in Sakaka, Dumat Al-Jandal, Arar, Rafha, Turaif, and Al-Uwayqilah.

Rainfall in Southwestern and Western Regions

The Asir and Jazan regions are expected to see continued rainfall until December 18, with heavier rain likely in highland areas such as:

🔹 Fayfa

🔹 Al-Dayer

Areas Expected to Receive Light Rain

Light to moderate rain is expected in the following areas:

🔘 Coastal Makkah governorates, including Jeddah, Bahrah, Khulais, Rabigh, Al-Jumum, and Al-Kamil

The NCM warned that thunderstorms, hail, valley runoff, and high sea waves may affect several regions.

Drivers are advised to:

■ Follow official weather warnings and instructions
