Saudi Arabia Boosts Defense Capabilities with Advanced THAAD Training
The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces announced the graduation of the third group of personnel trained to operate the US-made Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system. The training took place at Fort Bliss Military Base in El Paso, Texas, USA.
This group follows two earlier batches that completed their training months ago. The goal is to build a fully qualified Saudi team capable of operating and maintaining the THAAD system, one of the most advanced and accurate missile defense technologies in the world. The THAAD battery is designed to intercept short- and medium-range ballistic missiles and is considered a key part of Saudi Arabia’s air defense system. The Saudi air defense personnel went through an intensive program that included technical lessons, operational training, combat simulations, and advanced field exercises. The training was led by experts from the company that makes the THAAD system, in cooperation with the United States, under ongoing military agreements between the two countries.
This program is part of the Saudi Ministry of Defense’s plan to strengthen the readiness and technical abilities of its forces through advanced and specialized training. It also supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to modernize the military and develop local defense technology.
The graduation ceremony was held at Fort Bliss Military Base in the presence of Maj. Gen. Khalid Al-Zahrani, commander of the 1st Air Defense Group, representing Lt. Gen. Mazyad Al-Amro, commander of the Air Defense Forces. The event also included representatives from the US military and related training organizations.
