What Happens If You Cross a Red Light + Right Turn Rules



The General Traffic Department warned drivers not to cross a red light. Doing so is a traffic violation that puts the driver and others in danger and violates the rights of road users.

Through its official account on the X platform (Twitter), the department stressed that crossing a red light:

➤ Is a violation of traffic rules.

➤ Is considered harmful behavior that threatens lives and property.

Rules for Turning Right at a Red Light

The department also explained the conditions for turning right at a red signal. These include:

1. Stop completely before turning right at a red light.

2. Make sure the intersection is clear of other vehicles.

3. Give priority to vehicles coming from the opposite direction.

4. If there is a triangular traffic island at the intersection, the turn must be made before the triangle. Turning after the triangle is counted as running a red light. Follow Saudi Expatriates news channel on Telegram

5. Stay in the right lane before turning if it is a main road without a service road.

6. If there is both a main road and a service road, the vehicle must turn using the service road while keeping to the right lane before turning.

Additional Instructions

🚫 Do not turn right when there is a red arrow light or a sign that prohibits right turns.

🔘 Turning in these cases while the red light is on is considered running the signal.
