95% of Workers in Saudi Arabia covered by Basic Healthcare, GASTAT report reveals
Around 95% of workers in Saudi Arabia have access to basic healthcare services, according to the 2024 Health and Safety at Workplace Statistics Bulletin released on Tuesday by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The report also highlighted workplace safety issues. Among workers aged 15 and older, the occupational injury rate was 245.7 non-fatal injuries and 1.1 fatal injuries per 100,000 workers. Workplace Training and Safety Facilities
➤ 39% of workers received training on occupational health and safety procedures.
➤ 40.4% of workers had access to a dedicated health and safety management office at their workplace.
➤ 32.2% of workers underwent periodic medical check-ups provided by employers.
Workers Handling Risks
The report showed that:
✅ 5.4% of workers operate dangerous machinery.
✅ 2.1% handle chemicals.
✅ 1% are exposed to heavy metals.
Common Work-Related Health Problems
In the past 12 months, the most reported health issue was stress (2.1%), followed by eye and vision problems (2%). However, 79.5% of workers said they did not face any work-related health problems during this period. Recommend: New move to include individuals of other categories in health insurance plan
Data Collection Method
GASTAT explained that the estimates are based on self-reported data collected during household field visits as part of the 2024 National Health Survey. However, the occupational injury rates were calculated using registry data from the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, combined with GASTAT’s 2024 population estimates.
