Employers Face Heavy Fines for Failing to Insure Workers and Families, Warns CHI
On Thursday, the Council of Health Insurance (CHI) reported that 110 employers had been fined a total of 2.5 million riyals for violations against the Cooperative Health Insurance Law.
The CHI says the violations were caused by companies that had been warned to provide health insurance for their employees and eligible family members but didn't.
It is the responsibility of the employer, as stated in Article 14 of the Cooperative Health Insurance Law, to ensure that their employees and their dependents have health insurance. If the employer does not subscribe or pay the premiums, they must pay the overdue premiums and a fine not to exceed the annual subscription value per individual. In addition, those who violate the rules may be banned from employing foreign labor, either temporarily or permanently.
The council stated that these steps are an attempt to increase the system's openness and fairness while also strengthening its regulatory role and making sure that people with health insurance really pay their premiums.
A representative from CHI, Iman Al-Turaiki, reaffirmed the organization's dedication to creating a regulatory climate that encourages compliance and safeguards the rights of policyholders and their families.
She reaffirmed that the council will vigilantly monitor and penalize businesses that fail to adhere to the rules. See Also: New Saudi work visa classification system
