The initiative was inaugurated on Wednesday by Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Transport General Authority. Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser emphasized the program's significance in enabling advanced technologies and fostering a safe, intelligent transport environment.
The project will be implemented in seven important locations around Riyadh, including King Khalid International Airport Terminals 2 and 5, Roshn Business Front, Princess Nourah University, the North Train Station, and the offices of the Transport General Authority. Thirteen different locations have been identified for pickup and drop-off.
Private companies like AiDriver, WeRide, and Uber, as well as the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior, SDAIA, and the Geospatial Authority, worked together on the project's development, which demonstrates the kingdom's desire to encourage public-private partnerships and localize innovation. Onboard safety officers will closely monitor the cars during the 12-month trial program.
The Authority, through its technical and regulatory oversight, will oversee their operation on major highways and city streets.
Al-Jasser praised the project, describing it as "a model for smart and secure transport partnerships," and said it shows the Kingdom's dedication to green transportation and economic growth.
By putting Saudi Arabia at the front of autonomous mobility in the region, the Authority has verified that the pilot program is preparing for a wider national rollout. Trending: Important traffic violations and its fines
